Corporate Gifts for Clients That Actually Get Kept

Client gifts either strengthen relationships or get regifted. Here's how to pick corporate gifts that actually make an impression.

Corporate Gifts for Clients That Actually Get Kept cover image

Building a client gift this quarter?

Pick the pieces, choose packaging, and see live per-person pricing in Pack Builder. Proof before anything is decorated.

Open Pack Builder

Here's a number that should stop you in your tracks. A study from the Advertising Specialty Institute found that 79% of people who receive a branded gift say they're likely to do business with that company again. Nearly 8 out of 10. And yet, most companies are still sending generic fruit baskets and forgettable logo pens that end up in a junk drawer by Tuesday.

We've shipped thousands of corporate gifts for clients at Merchwell. We've seen what lands and what flops. And we've got strong opinions about it.

Let's get into it.

The ROI of Getting Client Gifts Right

Client retention is wildly cheaper than acquisition. Bain & Company research shows that increasing customer retention by just 5% can boost profits by 25% to 95%. That's not a typo. Business gifts for clients aren't just a "nice thing to do." They're a growth strategy hiding in plain sight.

We had a SaaS company come to us last year. They were spending $40K a quarter on client acquisition but almost nothing on retention. We helped them build a client appreciation gifts program. Their renewal rate jumped 12% in two quarters. The math wasn't even close.

The trick? You can't just slap your logo on something cheap and call it a day. The gift has to feel personal. It has to feel premium. And it has to be something the recipient actually wants to use.

Gift Sets: The Simplest Path to a Great Impression

Client Appreciation Merch Pack

If you're not sure where to start, go with a gift set. We've done the hard work of pairing items that look great together, and they arrive ready to impress.

Our Client Appreciation Merch Pack is our most popular option for a reason. It's the sweet spot between thoughtful and affordable. Perfect for quarterly check-ins, project milestones, or just saying "hey, we value this relationship."

For bigger moments (think: contract renewals, annual partnerships, major deal closes), the Signature Gift Merch Pack hits harder. Better materials. More premium feel. The kind of unboxing experience that makes someone pull out their phone and post about it.

Then there's the Executive Gift Merch Pack. This one's for the C-suite. For the client who bills $800 an hour and has seen everything. It's our top-tier branded corporate gifts package, and it performs exactly the way you'd expect at that level.

Premium Drinkware: The Reliable Choice

Here's why drinkware works so well as business gifts for clients. People use it every single day. Every morning coffee. Every afternoon water refill. Your brand is right there, in their hand, on their desk, in the meeting.

The YETI Rambler 20 oz Tumbler is our bestseller in this category. YETI has built a brand that people genuinely love. Nobody throws away a YETI. It's one of the best dollar-for-dollar investments in client gifting.

For something a little more casual, the YETI Rambler 14oz Stackable Mug is great. Stackable design. Camp-mug vibes. Clients love it.

Want something with a different aesthetic? The Corkcicle Sport Canteen 20 oz has a sleeker, more modern look. Corkcicle has been blowing up with the design-conscious crowd, and we've seen great responses when these go out to creative agencies and tech companies.

Notebooks and Writing Instruments

Don't underestimate analog. Even in 2026, people still love a great notebook.

The Karst Stone Paper Hardcover Notebook is a conversation starter. It's made from stone paper (calcium carbonate, zero trees). Waterproof. Tear-resistant. It's the kind of thing a client picks up and says, "Wait, what is this made of?" That's a branded touchpoint you can't buy with a banner ad.

The Moleskine Hardcover Notebook is the classic. Hemingway used Moleskine. So did Picasso. (At least that's what their marketing says, and honestly, it works.) It's a safe, premium choice that signals good taste.

Pair either notebook with a Baronfig Squire Pen or a Parker Jotter Ballpoint and you've got a gift set that feels intentional. The Parker Jotter has been around since 1954. It still looks good. Some designs just hold up.

Luxury and Specialty Items

Sometimes you need to go big. A whale client just renewed a six-figure contract? A referral partner sent you three new accounts? These moments call for something memorable.

The Godiva Gold Collection 15pc is a classic power move. Chocolate is universal. Godiva is a brand everyone recognizes. It arrives, it impresses, it gets eaten (and shared around the office, which means more eyeballs on your brand).

The Modern Sprout Rooted Candle is one of our sneaky favorites. It's a soy candle that, once burned, becomes a planter. Wildflower seeds are embedded in the wax. Unique? Absolutely. Memorable? Every time.

For the big swings: Sony Wireless Noise Canceling Headphones, a Patagonia Men's Better Sweater Jacket, or a Samsonite Laptop Backpack. These are the premium gifts that make jaws drop. We've seen companies send the Patagonia jacket to their top 20 clients each Q4 and get thank-you calls within 48 hours.

And for the client who works from home? A branded Cable Knit Sherpa Blanket is a surprisingly effective play. Cozy, useful, and it sits on their couch as a constant, subtle reminder of your company.

What Not to Do

Karst Stone Paper Hardcover Notebook

We've seen some things. Let us save you from the worst mistakes.

Don't go cheap and generic. A $3 pen with your logo on it doesn't say "we value you." It says "we had leftover trade show merch."

Don't forget the packaging. Presentation matters more than you think. A $30 gift in great packaging beats a $50 gift in a plain brown box. Every time.

Don't make it all about you. If the gift is 90% your branding and 10% value to the recipient, you've got the ratio backwards. Subtle branding on a premium item will always outperform a cheap item covered in logos.

Don't send the same gift every year. Your clients will notice. Mix it up. Rotate between categories. Keep them guessing.

Don't ignore dietary restrictions and preferences. Sending a box of gourmet cookies to someone with celiac disease is worse than sending nothing.

Budget Tiers

Here's how we typically break it down for client appreciation gifts:

- $15 to $30 per person: Single premium items. A YETI mug, a Moleskine notebook, or a quality pen. Great for broad client lists of 100+ people. - $30 to $75 per person: Gift sets and mid-tier combos. Drinkware paired with a notebook, or a specialty item like the Modern Sprout candle. Best for your top 50 clients. - $75 to $150+ per person: Executive-level gifts. Patagonia jackets, Sony headphones, or full gift packs. Reserved for your VIP clients and biggest accounts.

Most companies we work with spend between $40 and $80 per client gift. That range gives you plenty of room to impress without blowing your budget.

Common Questions

Godiva Gold Collection

How far in advance should we order corporate gifts for clients? We recommend at least 3 to 4 weeks for standard orders. If you need custom branding (and you should), add another week. Holiday season? Start in October. Seriously.

Can we include a personalized note with each gift? Yes. We offer custom insert cards with every order. Handwritten-style notes perform best. We can help you set that up.

What's the minimum order quantity? It depends on the product, but most items start at 25 units. Some of our preset packs have lower minimums. Reach out and we'll find something that works.

Do you handle shipping directly to clients? Absolutely. We do individual shipments to separate addresses across the U.S. (and internationally for most products). Just send us a spreadsheet and we'll take care of the rest.

What if a client's gift arrives damaged? We replace it. No questions, no hassle. That's our standard policy.

Are these gifts tax-deductible? Business gifts are generally deductible up to $25 per recipient per year under IRS rules. Talk to your accountant for specifics, but yes, most client gifts qualify.

Build Your Client Gift Pack

Want to create something custom? Our Pack Builder lets you mix and match premium products, add your branding, and preview the finished kit before you order. Pick from drinkware, notebooks, apparel, luxury items, and more. No minimums on preset packs. No guesswork.
