Merchwell decorates 39 Johnnie-O styles with your logo, across polos, quarter-zips, hoodies, vests, jackets and tees. The full catalog with live pricing at your quantity sits on our custom Johnnie-O page. This guide covers which pieces fit which program, what each costs at a real quantity, and the two rules that catch most first orders.
Three numbers shape every Johnnie-O order: six pieces minimum per style and color, 20 business days of standard production after you approve the mockup, and volume breaks that start at 50 pieces and reach 13 percent off at 1,000. Logo setup is included at every quantity.
One detail separates Johnnie-O from most of the upper-tier apparel we carry. Johnnie-O allows a front-left chest logo. Patagonia does not, which pushes your mark to the sleeve or upper back, and that single rule sends a lot of orders sideways after a mockup has already circulated. If your logo was drawn for a chest, Johnnie-O will take it as drawn.
John O'Donnell started Johnnie-O in 2005 around an idea he calls West Coast Prep, which is East Coast tailoring loosened up by Southern California. The result lands in a useful spot for corporate programs. It reads as golf-adjacent without being golf-only, and it looks like something a recipient picked out rather than something a company handed over.
Below is every piece we can decorate, what each costs, how the sizing runs across a mixed team, and the timeline you need to work backward from.
Why Johnnie-O works where standard corporate apparel fails
Most branded apparel gets worn once, to the event it was handed out at, and then it lives in a drawer. Three things change that outcome, and Johnnie-O clears all three.
It passes as personal clothing. At $77 for the Original 4-Button Polo, the piece sits in the range where someone assumes it was chosen, not bulk-ordered. That matters on a client list or a sales team, where the garment has to carry weight before anyone reads the logo. It's the same reasoning behind most of what we recommend for client gifts.
Quality beats quantity, and the research is not close. PPAI's consumer study of more than 3,400 people found 66 percent prefer fewer, higher-quality items over more low-cost ones, against 20 percent who want volume. The same study found 39 percent made a purchase from a brand after receiving its merch. A cheap polo buys you nothing except a line item.
Apparel earns impressions for years, not weeks. ASI's 2026 Ad Impressions Study puts promotional outerwear at roughly 9,000 brand impressions over the life of the garment, the highest of any category they measure. PPAI's Product Power 2026 survey of over 5,000 respondents adds the other half: 65 percent say they're very likely to keep a branded piece six months or longer, and they name durability, design and material as the reasons.
The custom Johnnie-O collection: 39 pieces with your logo
Prices below are the starting per-piece figures on the site today. Every card shows live pricing at your quantity, so you can price a 50-piece run against a 250-piece run before you ask us for anything.
Polos
The Original 4-Button Polo from $77 is the piece the brand is known for, and the one to pick if you're picking one. Pair it with the Women's Maxine Polo from $94. For a lighter, softer hand, the Birdie Polo runs $85 and the Women's Coastal Wash V-Neck is the cheapest way into the brand at $68. Nine polos in total, which is the deepest category here and the reason Johnnie-O suits golf outings and sales kickoffs.
Quarter-zips
The Sully Quarter-Zip from $120 and the Women's Susie Quarter-Zip from $94 are the pair most teams land on, because a quarter-zip fits a wider size range than a polo and layers over whatever someone already owns. The Freeborne at $103 is the budget line. At the top, the Raynor Merino Quarter-Zip at $198 is real merino wool and belongs on a short list, not a headcount.
Hoodies and crewnecks
Nine sweatshirt styles, and the split matters. The Talon Lightweight Hoodie at $103 and the Women's Nalla Hoodie at $129 work year-round and ship well to remote teams. Crewnecks read more like office clothing, so the Freeman Crewneck at $111 and the Women's Penny Crewneck at $103 are the safer pick when you don't know where a piece will be worn.
Vests and jackets
A vest solves the sizing problem on a wide roster, which is why the Reggie Vest and the Belfry Quilted Vest at $137 move well for company-wide rollouts. The Women's Tomi Full-Zip Jacket at $120 is the women's counterpart worth ordering alongside them. The Juno Quilted Barn Jacket at $215 is the most expensive piece in the range and the one that works as an executive gift on its own.
Tees, and where the budget starts
The Women's Merediths V-Neck Tee at $43 and the Dale 2.0 Pocket Tee at $48 are the two cheapest ways to put the label in someone's hands. The Course Tee and Women's Course Tee at $76 are the performance version, built for a round of golf rather than a Saturday. A tee is the right call for event handouts, where conference and event merchandise has to clear a per-attendee number.
How custom Johnnie-O ordering works
Four rules govern every order. None of them are difficult, but two of them will change your calendar if you find out late.
Six pieces per style and color, and that is the whole floor. There's no larger order minimum sitting behind it. Six men's polos, six women's polos and six vests is a legitimate 18-piece order, and it covers three roles instead of handing everyone the same garment.
Embroidery or print, and the chest is available. Front-left chest is the standard placement, with sleeve and back also open. Send vector artwork. If your logo carries fine text or a tall stacked lockup, check it against our guide to decoration methods before you commit, because thread resolves detail differently than ink does.
Twenty business days of standard production after mockup approval. Artwork setup and the mockup round sit in front of that, so five weeks is the honest planning number and six is comfortable. Count backward from the date people need the pieces in hand, not from the date you place the order.
Sizing runs wide, which is rarer than it sounds. All 39 styles carry S through XL, 33 go to 2XL and 21 reach 3XL. Thirteen styles start at XS. Twenty-seven styles are cut for men and 12 for women, so a mixed team gets separate patterns rather than one unisex body graded up and down.
What a custom Johnnie-O program costs
Three tiers, and which one you land in depends more on who receives the piece than on how many you buy.
Event tier, from $43 to $77. Tees and the entry polos. Best for conference handouts, trade show staff and anything where the number gets multiplied by 300 and still has to clear a budget line.
Program tier, from $85 to $137. Polos, quarter-zips, hoodies, crewnecks and vests. This is where most company-wide apparel and new hire welcome kits land, and it's the range the brand is built around.
Gift tier, from $146 to $215. The Raynor merino quarter-zip, the Hoppin hoodie and the Juno barn jacket. At this level you're buying for a top-20 client list or a leadership group, not a headcount. The same logic drives our corporate holiday gifts planning.
Volume moves these numbers, though less than it would on a blank. Breaks land at 50, 100, 250, 500 and 1,000 pieces, taking 3, 6, 8, 10 and 13 percent off. Send your headcount and the pieces you're weighing and we'll come back with exact per-piece pricing and a mockup inside one business day.
How to order custom Johnnie-O for your team
1. Pick the styles and colors. Tell us the use case if you'd rather not choose from a grid, or build the mix yourself in Pack Builder. Six pieces per style and color is the floor, so there's room for more than one option.
2. Send your logo early. Vector files work best. We set the artwork up for the placement you choose and show you a proof before anything runs.
3. Approve the mockup. You sign off on placement, thread colors and final pricing before production starts. The 20-day clock begins here, not when you place the order.
4. Production and delivery. Ship to one office, or send Claim Pages to each recipient so they pick their own size and enter their own address. For programs that reorder, we can also hold stock and ship as people join. Chasing sizes by email is where most apparel programs stall.
How Johnnie-O compares to the other brands we carry
We carry five apparel brands in this range, and they're not interchangeable. Here's where each one wins.
Against Peter Millar. Peter Millar is the dressier label and it prices like it, starting around $75 and running past $200. It also needs co-branding approval on every order, which adds a step. Johnnie-O starts at $43, skips the approval round, and reads looser. Our guide to custom Peter Millar covers the case for going formal.
Vuori is the athleisure pick. It skews younger and carries a 24-piece minimum against Johnnie-O's six. If the pieces are going to a startup team that wears hoodies to the office, Vuori fits better, and our custom Vuori launch guide has the full range. Johnnie-O suits a room with a wider age spread, and the six-piece floor makes small runs workable in a way Vuori's does not.
Patagonia carries more weight as a gift. It has the outdoor credibility and the price to match, with the Better Sweater starting around $119. It also refuses chest logos. Read our custom Patagonia guide if the recipient cares about the outdoors. Pick Johnnie-O when the logo placement matters or the budget has to stretch across a full headcount.
TravisMathew and Marine Layer sit closest. TravisMathew is the nearest comparison, also golf-rooted, and our custom TravisMathew range starts lower at $23. Marine Layer is softer and more casual, built around fleece rather than polos, and the custom Marine Layer collection is the better call for a West Coast tech team. Johnnie-O sits between them, with more polo depth than Marine Layer and a more finished look than TravisMathew.
Where custom Johnnie-O fits
Four programs account for most of what we quote in this range.
Golf outings and client events. This is the brand's home turf. Polos at $77 to $96 and the Course performance tees cover a full field, and the six-piece minimum means you can run separate men's and women's styles without inflating the order.
Sales kickoffs and company-wide apparel. Quarter-zips and vests in the $94 to $137 band fit the widest size range with the least fit risk. Pair them with Claim Pages so nobody is collecting sizes in a spreadsheet.
Onboarding. A hoodie or crewneck at $103 to $129 is the anchor piece in most new hire kits we build. Hold stock with us and ship per start date rather than ordering in batches.
Executive and top-client gifts. The Juno barn jacket and the Raynor merino quarter-zip carry enough on their own to go out single, without a box built around them.
Frequently asked questions about custom Johnnie-O
Johnnie-O or Patagonia if my logo has to sit on the chest?
Go with Johnnie-O. Front-left chest is its standard placement, with sleeve and back also open. Patagonia reserves its chest panel at every quantity and pushes your mark to the sleeve or upper back. If your logo was drawn for a chest and you would rather not redraw it, that rules Patagonia out before price enters the conversation.
Johnnie-O or Peter Millar for a golf outing?
Peter Millar reads more formal and runs higher, starting around $75 and climbing past $200. Johnnie-O starts at $43 and feels looser. For a client-facing outing where half the field is senior, our guide to custom Peter Millar covers the dressier option. For a wider internal group or a mixed-seniority scramble, Johnnie-O stretches further across the same budget.
What's the cheapest way to order Johnnie-O for a large team?
The Women's Merediths V-Neck Tee at $43 and the Dale 2.0 Pocket Tee at $48 are the floor. For apparel people keep rather than wear once, the entry polos at $77 to $85 are the better value, and the 100-piece break takes another 6 percent off. Below roughly $70 a piece, you're trading the thing that makes the brand worth ordering.
Can I mix men's and women's styles in one order?
Yes, and you should. The six-piece minimum applies per style and color, not per order, so six men's quarter-zips and six women's quarter-zips is a valid twelve-piece run. Twenty-seven of the 39 styles are men's and 12 are women's, and the patterns are drafted separately.
How far ahead should I order for a December handout?
Start by the first week of November. Twenty business days of production is four calendar weeks, artwork and the mockup round sit in front of that, and December removes working days from the middle. Merchwell's stated cutoff for December delivery is November 15, and that assumes artwork is ready when you order.
How many cheap polos is one Johnnie-O polo worth?
Fewer than the math suggests, and that is the point. A $20 polo gets worn to the event and retired, so 300 of them buy you one afternoon. The PPAI research is consistent here: durability, design and material are what people name when they explain why they kept something. If the budget forces a choice between 300 cheap polos and 120 good ones, 120 is the better buy, because those 120 are still in rotation next winter.
The case for spending $77 on a polo instead of $20 isn't about the polo. It's that one of them gets worn in front of people who've never heard of your company and the other doesn't. Johnnie-O lands in the narrow band where a corporate piece stops looking corporate, and the chest placement means you don't have to redraw your logo to get there. When you're ready to price it, the custom Johnnie-O collection has live per-piece pricing at your quantity. If you want to weigh it against the rest of the range first, start with our custom Vuori collection guide.
