The Better Sweater is the piece most companies mean when they say they want Patagonia. Merchwell carries five of them you can order with your logo embroidered: the men's and women's jackets, the men's and women's vests, and the women's quarter-zip. Custom Patagonia starts at $119.08 per piece for the vest and $146.77 for the jacket, at a six-piece minimum per style and color.
Plan around these numbers: 6 pieces minimum per style and color, 10 business days standard production after you approve the mockup, and volume breaks at 50, 250, and 500 pieces that take 7, 13, and 20 percent off. Embroidery and logo setup are included at every quantity.
One rule decides more Patagonia orders than price does. Patagonia does not allow a logo on the chest. Your mark goes on the left sleeve or the upper back, and that is not a preference we can negotiate for you. Companies who find this out after they have circulated a mockup lose a week, so it is the first thing worth knowing and the reason this post exists separately from our guide to custom Patagonia corporate apparel.
Below is every Better Sweater piece we can embroider, what each costs at a real quantity, what to order instead if the budget does not reach, and how the sleeve placement changes the logo you should send us.
Why the Better Sweater is the piece companies reorder
Plenty of fleece gets handed out once and never seen again. The Better Sweater is one of the few branded pieces that survives its first winter, and there are three reasons that holds up.
It reads as a gift, not as uniform. At $146.77 the jacket sits in the range where someone assumes it was chosen rather than bulk-ordered. That matters most on a client list or a leadership offsite, where the piece has to carry some weight on its own. The same logic drives most of what we recommend for client gifts.
Outerwear earns more impressions than anything else you can brand. ASI's 2026 Ad Impressions Study puts promotional outerwear at roughly 9,000 brand impressions over the life of the garment, the highest of any product category they measure. A fleece that gets worn on a Saturday is doing work a desk item never does.
Usefulness is what keeps it in rotation. PPAI's consumer research, covering 5,674 people across the US and Canada, found 75.4 percent keep a promotional product because it is useful, far ahead of any other reason, and 48.7 percent keep one longer than five years. A mid-weight fleece is about as useful as branded apparel gets.
The custom Patagonia Better Sweater collection: five pieces with your logo
Prices below are the starting per-piece figures on the site today. Each card shows live pricing at your quantity, so you can check a 50-piece run against a 250-piece run before you ask us for anything.
Better Sweater Jacket, men's and women's
Patagonia Men's Better Sweater Jacket and the Women's Better Sweater Jacket, both from $146.77. The default choice, and the one to pick if you are picking one. Full-zip, stand collar, and a knit face that does not look like athletic fleece. Both patterns are drafted separately, so a mixed team gets two cuts rather than one unisex body sized up and down. This is the piece that works as a five-year service award and as a client gift without changing anything about it.
Better Sweater Vest, men's and women's
Patagonia Men's Better Sweater Vest and the Women's Better Sweater Vest, both from $119.08. Cheaper, easier to size, and better for the logo. A vest layers over whatever someone already owns, which removes most of the fit risk on a wide size range. It also puts your mark on the upper back where there is a clean, flat panel, rather than on a sleeve that moves. For a company-wide rollout the vest is usually the smarter $27 saving.
Women's Better Sweater Quarter-Zip
Patagonia Women's Better Sweater Quarter-Zip, from $137.54. A pullover body for teams that do not want a full zip. Patagonia does not make a men's Better Sweater quarter-zip in our catalog, so pair this with the Men's Micro D Quarter-Zip at $72.92 if you need a matching men's piece. The two do not share a fabric, which is worth saying out loud before you plan a team photo around them.
If the Better Sweater is over budget
Patagonia Men's Micro D Fleece Jacket from $91.38 and the Women's Micro D Quarter-Zip from $72.92. Same label, roughly half the spend. Micro D is lighter and plainer than the Better Sweater, and nobody will mistake one for the other up close. At a 200-person headcount the difference is real money, and the logo on the sleeve reads identically either way.
If you want to spend more
Patagonia Men's Nano Puff Vest from $183.69 and the Men's Down Sweater Vest from $220.62. Where a Patagonia order stops being apparel and becomes a gift. At this tier you are buying for a top-20 client list or a leadership group, not a headcount. The full range, including rain shells and Black Hole packs, sits on the Patagonia brand page.
How Patagonia's co-branding rules actually work
Patagonia runs a tighter corporate program than most of the brands we carry. None of it is difficult. Two of the rules will change your artwork, and one will change your calendar.
No chest logos. Left sleeve or upper back only. Patagonia protects its own chest placement, so that panel is not available at any quantity. Send us a logo that survives being small and off-center. Wordmarks work, tall stacked lockups do not, and anything with fine text should be checked against our guide to decoration methods before you commit to it.
Embroidery only. No screen printing on Patagonia, which rules out large graphics and gradients. On a knit fleece face that is the right call anyway, because thread sits better on this fabric than ink would.
Six pieces per style and color, and that is the whole minimum. There is no larger order floor to clear, which makes Patagonia unusually workable for small runs. Six women's jackets, six men's jackets, and six vests is a legitimate 18-piece order, and it covers three different roles instead of handing everyone the same thing.
Ten business days of production after mockup approval. Count backward from the date people need the pieces in hand, not from the date you place the order. Artwork setup and the mockup round sit in front of that, so two calendar weeks is the honest minimum and three is comfortable.
What a custom Better Sweater program costs
Three tiers, and which one you land in depends more on who is receiving the piece than on how many you buy.
Vest program, from $119.08. Better Sweater Vest, men's and women's. Best for company-wide apparel where the number gets multiplied by 150 and still has to clear a budget line.
Jacket program, from $146.77. Better Sweater Jacket, men's and women's, plus the women's quarter-zip at $137.54. Best for client gifts, service milestones, and anything a recipient will compare against what they would have bought themselves.
Mixed program, from $72.92. Micro D for the wider team, Better Sweater for the people the program is really for. Most orders over 100 pieces end up here once we price both.
Volume moves these numbers, though not as hard as it does on a blank. Breaks land at 50, 250, and 500 pieces, taking roughly 7, 13, and 20 percent off. Send your headcount and the pieces you are weighing and we will come back with exact per-piece pricing and a mockup within one business day.
How to order custom Patagonia for your team
1. Pick the styles and colors. Tell us the use case if you would rather not choose from a grid, or build the mix yourself in Pack Builder. Six pieces per style and color is the floor, so you have room for more than one option.
2. Send your logo early. Vector files work best. We set the artwork up for sleeve embroidery, which usually means simplifying a lockup that was drawn for a chest, and we will show you that before anything runs.
3. Approve the mockup. You sign off on placement, thread colors, and final pricing before production starts. Nothing runs until you have seen it on the actual piece.
4. Production and delivery. Ten business days is standard. Ship to one office, or send Claim Pages to each recipient so they pick their own size and enter their own address. That step matters more than it sounds, because chasing sizes by email is where most apparel programs stall. It is the same setup we use for new hire welcome kits.
Frequently asked questions about the custom Patagonia Better Sweater
Better Sweater jacket or vest for a company-wide rollout?
The vest, in most cases. It costs $27.69 less per piece, it fits a wider size range without anyone trying it on first, and the upper-back logo panel is cleaner than the sleeve. Save the jacket for the groups where the piece itself is the point.
Will a sleeve logo actually be visible?
At conversational distance, yes. Across a conference room, no. If your logo needs to read from the far side of a room, order the vest and put the mark on the upper back instead. That is the real trade in Patagonia's placement rules and it is worth deciding before artwork.
Patagonia or Vuori at this price point?
Go with Patagonia if the recipient cares about the outdoors or the piece is going to someone senior. Vuori if it is going to a younger team and will be worn to the office as often as outside it. Our custom Vuori collection guide covers that range, and Vuori allows chest placement if the logo matters more than the label.
Can I mix men's and women's Better Sweaters in one order?
Yes, and you should. The six-piece minimum applies per style and color, not per order, so six men's jackets and six women's jackets is a valid twelve-piece run. Mixed rollouts read better in photographs and get worn more.
How far ahead should I order for a December handout?
Start in early November. Ten business days of production is two calendar weeks, artwork and the mockup round sit in front of it, and December removes working days from the middle. Anyone planning a holiday handout should treat the first week of November as the deadline, which is the same timeline we give for corporate holiday gifts generally.
Does the Better Sweater run true to size?
It runs close to true with a slightly trim body, which is why we push Claim Pages on anything over about thirty pieces. Letting people pick their own size costs you nothing and removes the exchange round that otherwise lands three weeks after delivery.
The case for spending $147 on a fleece instead of $40 is not really about the fleece. The Incentive Research Foundation calls it trophy value, the gap between what an item costs and what receiving it is worth to the person holding it. A Better Sweater carries that gap in a way a generic quarter-zip does not, and the ASI impression numbers say it keeps earning long after the handout.
